Eat Local

Students at UNC Asheville are working hard to make a difference in the kinds of food they’d like to see on campus. From our on-campus farms to what’s served in Brown Hall, changes are happening. Just recently, the Citizen Times featured our campus and some of our efforts to make wiser food choices and local restaurants helping to make healthy food on our campus a reality. Click here to read more.

Tailgate Market

The UNC Asheville campus is lucky enough to host the North Asheville Tailgate Market, Saturday mornings from April to November. The market offers locally grown foods, meats, baked goods, and even crafts made by local artists. There’s plenty of parking and all are welcome. Bring your friends and family!

Faculty, staff & students take advantage of purchasing food from organic, local growers at the North Asheville Tailgate Market, the oldest tailgate in Asheville, now located on campus. Foods sold include eggs, meats, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and baked goods. Vendors also sell homemade arts and crafts.

ASAP

The Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project is a non-profit organization based in Asheville that was established to help local markets thrive, link farmers to markets and supporters, and build healthy communities through connections to local food. ASAP has created a number of resources to encourage and assist Western North Carolinians to find local foods in their area, whether it’s at a restaurant or a farmers market. One of the most successful and prominent resources in Asheville is the ASAP Appalachian Grown certification and branding program, making it even easier for people to find fresh, local foods, and connect with the farmers who grow it.
